Plaintiffs, five members of the United States Marine Corps Reserve Maintenance Battalion, of Charlotte, North Carolina, filed this action on January 2, 1973, seeking relief from actions of the defendants which would subject them to immediate induction into full time military service if they continue to wear wigs to cover their long hair at weekend Marine Reserve drills.
