The judgment of the court (Rost, J. absent,) was pronounced by

Eustis, C. J.

The plaintiffs shipped on board the ship London, for New Orleans, fifteen cases of merchandize, consisting chiefly of calicoes and prints. The bills of lading are in the usual form, and bear date the 7th of February, 1846. The ship sailed on her voyage on the 14th of that month at eleven o’clock, a.m., and arrived in New Orleans on the 22d of August, where she discharged her cargo. The cases were received by the plaintiffs, who instituted the present action against the owners of the ship for the unnecessary detention…
