Defendant stands accused of the crimes of criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree (Penal Law § 165.40); unauthorized use of a motor vehicle in the third degree (Penal Law § 165.05 [1]) and attempted illegal possession of a vehicle identification number (Penal Law §§ 110.00, 170.70).
