By section 36' of “An Act to establish a Police Government for the City of Detroit,” approved February 28th, 1865, (Laws of 1865, p. 99,) it is provided that “ the offices of City Marshal and Assistant Marshal of the city of Detroit are hereby abolished, and the duties of said offices shall hereafter be performed by the Superintendent of Police, or by the captains and sergeants of police, under his direction, in accordance with the provisions of this act.” Butj this section was not to become operative until the Superintendent of Police, or Captain of Police, authorized by said act…
