The appellant was convicted of aggravated sexual assault of a child, and his punishment was assessed by the jury at thirty years’ confinement in the penitentiary.1 On the morning that jury selection was scheduled to begin, the trial court heard argument on the appellant’s pretrial motion for a hearing to determine the six-year-old child-complainant’s competency to testify.
