The plaintiff, Salah E. Reyad, M.D. (Dr. Reyad), had been a member of the active medical staff of defendant Caritas Norwood Hospital Inc. (the hospital) for sixteen years before his application for reappointment to the medical staff was denied in December 2010. In this lawsuit, Dr. Reyad claims he was denied reappointment and the position of Chief of Medicine as consequences of his whistleblowing activities.
