POSNER, Circuit Judge.

The plaintiff, a correctional officer employed by the Cook County, Illinois, sheriffs office, was suspended pending termination proceedings before the sheriffs Merit Board. The proceedings had been instituted because of a belief that the plaintiff might have been negligent or otherwise at fault in failing to prevent a prisoner whom she was guarding from committing suicide.
