We granted these petitions for discretionary review and consolidated them in order to determine whether a trial court has authority to extend the original term of community supervision of an accused who has been placed on deferred adjudication for a state-jail felony. The courts of appeals concluded that the trial court had such authority, although they arrived at their respective conclusions based upon different statutory provisions.
