In April, 1861, George Payne and wife conveyed a tract of six hundred and five acres of land to Wm. M. Lockett, and shortly thereafter these suits were brought against Payne, with attachments for subjecting the land to the satisfaction of the plaintiff’s debts, on the ground that the conveyance was without consideration and intended to defraud the creditors of George Payne. None of the debts were against Payne’s wife, nor was she at any time a party to either of the suits. Lockett, being a party, resisted the relief sought, claiming the land as a…
