WOOLLEY, Circuit Judge.
Vanadium was discovered in 1830 in a specimen of iron obtained from ores at Taberg, Sweden, and was subsequently produced in quantities from the slags of the Taberg blast furnaces. Later the metal was found in Scotland and Mexico.
Investigation of the metal began with its discovery and broadened with its widening production. Its value as an alloying material was of course not recognized until alloy steels, first conceived perhaps in about 1858, became established in 1890 to 1900.
