Houghton, J.:

The appellant, as chamberlain of the city of Héw York, has in his possession more than half a million dollars, the aggregate of many court deposits made with his predecessors more than twenty years ago. The State of Hew York claims these- moneys should be paid over to its Treasurer by virtue of the. provisions of section 9 of chapter 651 of the Laws of 1892, which reads as follows: , '
