Defendant Edward Jennings was convicted of first degree murder (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1991, ch. 38, par. 9 — 1) in the shooting of Carl Riley and of attempted murder (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1991, ch. 38, par. 8 — 4) and aggravated battery with a firearm (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1991, ch. 38, par. 12 — 4.2) in the shooting of Bernard Grant.
