Melvin Vinson, Jr., was tried by a jury and adjudicated guilty of the unlawful distribution of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a pistol after having been convicted of a crime of violence, see § 13A-12-211 and § 13A-ll-72(a), Ala. Code 1975. Pursuant to the Habitual Felony Offender Act, Vinson was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment for his conviction for the unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, and was ordered to pay $100 to the Alabama Crime Victims Compensation Commission, and was fined $1,000 drug-user fee to be retaxed if he completes a…
