After a bench trial, defendant was convicted of aggravated criminal sexual assault. The court found defendant guilty but mentally ill and sentenced him to eight years in the Illinois Department of Corrections with directions that he be sent to the Department of Mental Health as soon as possible. Defendant appeals, contending that: (1) the trial court erred in denying his motion to suppress statements; (2) the State failed to prove him guilty beyond a reasonable doubt; and (3) the trial court improperly considered defendant’s sentence…
