Today we're announcing the arrival of podcasts in Exa's index: 3.2 million episodes from 119,000 shows, with full transcripts. That's roughly 23.7 billion words, or about 2.2 million hours of audio, available to your AI agents.

Podcasts are where founders, executives, investors, and experts speak at length, often before they write anything down. Until now, most of that was locked inside audio files that search engines can't read. Exa Podcasts makes it searchable, and since we update it constantly, new episodes show up soon after they air. This valuable data is available today across all our endpoints at no additional charge.

Data your agents can use

Exa Podcasts spans technology, business, finance, news, science, culture, sports, and more. Because every episode is transcribed, Exa goes beyond titles and descriptions to show what was actually said.

A user might query for:

The newest episode of Hard Fork

What Jensen Huang said about inference demand on recent podcasts

Podcast episodes where founders discuss pricing mistakes

Results from the Exa Podcasts index include structured data like:

  • Show and episode titles, publisher, and description
  • Hosts and guests
  • Publish date and duration
  • The full transcript with speaker labels

Higher quality results

We benchmarked podcast search across 7 APIs, using each API's best tested mode.

Given 250 active shows, we checked whether each API returned the show's newest episode in its top 5 results.

Podcast search freshness: Exa Auto returns the newest episode in its top 5 results 98.4% of the time.

Exa returns the newest episode 98.4% of the time, better than all tested alternatives.

We also checked whether each API's results led to the correct answer. We used 667 questions about specific episodes.

Podcast answer correctness: Exa Auto answers 85.0% of episode questions correctly.

Exa answers 85.0% correctly, better than all tested alternatives.

Quality matters for agents. If an agent uses an old episode or incomplete summaries, it can make mistakes or require costly retries.

When freshness and accuracy matter

Personal assistants

People ask assistants to catch them up: "What did they talk about on this week's episode?" Exa returns the newest episode, so the assistant can summarize it or query the raw transcript by speaker.

Investment and market research

Executives and investors say things on podcasts they don't say in press releases. Analysts can track what a CEO said about demand, pricing, or competition between earnings calls, and agents can pull quotes with the speaker and date.

Sales/marketing research and recruiting

Before a meeting, it helps to know what a prospect or candidate has said publicly. With Exa Podcasts, an agent can find a person's recent appearances and summarize their views. Marketers also use podcast transcripts to score accounts and leads.
