Ο "Ρωμηός" του Γεώργιου Σουρή : η δεκαπενταετία της κρίσης 1883-1897
Αθανασία Δανελάτου
The present thesis explores the literary representations of the first major economic crisis in the Greek nation-state, at the end of the nineteenth century, into the weekly satirical newspaper “Romeyos” (Ρωμηός). “Romeyos” (Ρωμηός) was founded in 1883 in Athens and was published weekly until 1918. Editors of Romeyos’ first year period were the poets Yeorgios Souris and Dimitriow Kokkos and later on Yeorgios Souris was its exclusive editor. The satiric newspaper “Romeyos” (Ρωμηός) was written whole in verse by the poet Yeorgios Souris (1853-1919) and published in Athens from 1883 to 1918. The research focuses on the subjects of taxation, state’s lending and the third bankruptcy of the Greek state (1893), as appear on “Romeyos” (Ρωμηός) sheets of the period from 1883 to 1897. The interaction between literary phenomenon and political culture of the time is attempted through the perspective of Michael Bakhtin’s theoretical terms of “dialogic imagination” and “chronotope”.
