Abstract

This study aims to assess a hybrid approach/framework based on real-time robotic collaboration between a university and a robotic industrial firm, demonstrating a practical and pedagogical model for hands-on training. The aim is to assess the Hybrid Real-Time Robotics Collaboration Framework. The method is implemented through 3D printed façade panels in a computer application elective module, teaching Rhinoceros and Grasshopper software, followed by the fabrication process. The students designed a façade panel, followed by the printing process, which took place at the industrial firm. They get to control and monitor the robotic arm, whose function was to mimic sun's movement, tracing the effect on their printed façade panel. Utilizing a combination of physical robots and virtual connectivity, students engaged in collaborative tasks, enabling experiential learning in a shared environment despite geographical separation. The hybrid framework facilitated seamless communication, synchronized operations, and real-time data exchange, fostering skills in robotics and problem-solving. Results indicate that this collaborative model enhances student engagement, improves technical proficiency, and promotes interdisciplinary knowledge transfer. The findings suggest that hybrid robotic collaboration can serve as an effective pedagogical tool, especially where universities have limited access to such advanced tools, allowing students to become familiar with the application of robotics in the construction industry.
