Abstract
Background: Effective oral hygiene in children depends on both appropriate brushing techniques and toothbrush design. The proper technique requires a toothbrush head that permits efficient circular and vertical movements. Aim: To determine the optimal toothbrush head dimensions for children aged 7–13 years based on combined incisal edge–to–sulcus measurements. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional observational study was conducted on 40 children aged 7–13 years. Measurements from the incisal edge to the base of the sulcus were recorded on labial and buccal aspects of maxillary and mandibular anterior teeth. Combined values were calculated. Statistical analysis was performed using paired t-test. Results: The mean combined labial measurement was 17.21 ± 1.12 mm, while the mean combined buccal measurement was 17.86 ± 1.15 mm. The difference was statistically highly significant (p < 0.001). Conclusion: The optimal toothbrush head dimensions were determined to be 18–20 mm in length and 8–10 mm in width, facilitating effective proper brushing technique.
