Philippe-Auguste Guye (1862-1922) was one of the most brilliant Swiss physical chemists of the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th century, who devoted himself to the theoretical and experimental study of phenomena related with the use of equations of state to predict physical properties such as molar refraction and the molecular state at the critical point, the accurate determination of atomic weights, optical activity of organic compounds and its laws, electrolysis of alkaline chlorides, and the fixation of atmospheric nitrogen.
