New Explanations of WU Qi's Political Reform

Abstract

In light of the existing documents and archeological mat erials, this article draws two conclusions about WU Qi's political reform. It su ggests that Wu Qi's political reform lasted either ten or six years. It argues t hat HAN Fei's claim that “Chu was weakened because of refusing to carry out WU Qi's reform measures while Qin became strong and prosperous with SHANG Yang's m easures” and the fact that Qin defeated Chu do not prove that WU Qi's reform wa s a failure. The article concludes that WU Qi's political reform was a success.
