Abstract
This chapter examines the implications of artificial intelligence–enabled educational systems for privacy, data protection, and informational autonomy. It analyses how the increasing use of learning analytics, data-driven personalization, and automated decision-making reshapes the collection and processing of student data. The discussion highlights key concerns relating to consent, surveillance, profiling, and algorithmic bias, particularly in contexts where students may lack meaningful control over their personal information. Attention is given to emerging regulatory frameworks and governance principles, including data minimization, accountability, and privacy by design, in addressing these challenges. The chapter further explores the tension between innovation in education technology and the protection of digital rights, emphasizing the need for balanced and ethically grounded approaches.
