What would you do if your company was going out of business? Would you tell the world? Would you blast it on social media and see if maybe people could help you? Well, I know one person who did do that. Her name is Jess. She's out in New Zealand and she's kind of gone viral a little bit as she's posted on Instagram. that her Pilates studio was failing and she created a series called Saving My Pilates Studio. And the amount of people that have chimed in to help her out and give her advice has been amazing and remarkable and the intentions were amazing. However, not everybody that gave advice really is in the position to give advice great attentions but maybe just not in the right position well we've helped 4 300 gyms and fitness studios and uh we've helped quite a few of them get to a hundred thousand dollars a month so uh getting it to 15 or 20 000 which is where she really needs to be uh per month is is really not a difficult task So I reached out to her and we actually got connected and we decided to do a podcast together where I and she and I are going to talk for, I don't know, however long it takes. I think, I think it's almost about two hours and I just coach her. And so for all of you that are watching, this is a great episode for not only if you're struggling, but even if you're doing well, because we really break it down to the basics and the things that matter to be able to get more done with less effort and less money and less, uh, uh less time so hopefully you guys find a lot of value in it as well use the comments and cheer her on because um if you've never been in a position like this the all the encouragement of the world

All right, we got a special treat for everyone today. We are here with Jess Lander. Now, today is gonna be something that we've never done on the podcast, but I think it's gonna be incredibly useful for a lot of people. And regardless of whether you're starting out or you're thinking about starting out or you're already doing 50 to 100K a month, doesn't really matter. There's gonna be a lot of really great things that we're gonna cover, but how do I know Jess? So Jess, first, welcome to the Behind Jim Doerr podcast.

So there might be people that are watching that have started following your journey because you started getting some engagement because of it. But I was randomly scrolling on Instagram and somebody had sent me a message and it was Jess's story. And what she was sharing was just completely opening up her kimono and saying, I am struggling right now and I'm doing everything I can to save my studio. This is day one. Or I think I think I got shared day two and I went back and watched day one. So I went back and watched day one. And then I'm realizing, wow, Jess is at the point in her life right now where her studio is not doing what she thought it was going to be doing at this stage. And she's just asking for help. And anybody that's willing to help her, that's able to help her, she's going to take it. And I thought it was so cool. So I think I just watched the first one and I liked it and I commented. But then... I saw like she was consistent with it. I

Episode notes

Struggling pilates studio owner goes viral asking for help -- Mike Arce coaches her live on numbers, retention, ads, and pricing.

Jess Landar runs a struggling pilates studio in Auckland, New Zealand. She posted on Instagram that she needed help, so Mike reached out and turned it into a live gym business audit. This is Part 1 of a two-part series.

Her studio peaked at $15,000 NZD a month and had dropped to $10,000 when they sat down. Mike walks through her gym churn rate, her lifetime value, her ad data, and her pricing structure, and shows her the exact math that would triple her book of business without adding a single new member.

This episode is for any struggling pilates studio owner, or any boutique fitness studio owner who feels like they are doing everything right and still losing ground. Mike coaches her live the same way he coaches the studios inside GSD Gyms, using real numbers instead of guesses.

Part 2 covers her retention plan and her sales process.

In this episode you'll learn:
— Why her ad costs looked expensive but were actually some of the best Mike has seen
— The churn math that shows what her book of business is really worth
— How dropping churn from 11.3% to 4% could triple her lifetime value without a single new member
— The three ways to grow revenue, and why only one made sense for her right now
— The three ways to get more members, and
