73 turns · 20 minAnd Joel is getting, from what we learned, $3 cost per lead. How many leads have you gotten in just like the two weeks?
So in 10 days, we've had 84 leads total. Okay. Signed up 38 for one of our leads or ads, and we signed up another 14 so far for our free intro to our commercial game.
Dang. Damn. And you were signing up with people while you were riding horses.
Yeah, I literally just got one in my notifications just as they were speaking.
All right. If you are running paid ads or you have thought about running paid ads for your gym, obviously you want to get as many leads as you possibly can for as little as possible as far as cost goes. That's the deal. And right now what we're seeing with gyms is typically around that, like, $20 to $35 cost per lead, give or take. And this guy right here is Joel. Joel, say hi. Welcome to the Behind Gym Door podcast. So Joel is in our A-Class group. The reason we're here and not in an actual gym is because we're in Yellowstone for the A-Class retreat. And Joel is getting, from what we learned, $3 cost per lead. And you were getting leads while we were just riding horses all through the Yellowstone. But how many leads have you gotten in just like the two weeks

man Okay, so I'm gonna be asking Joel questions that I find useful for myself, but I know it'll be useful for you as well. These are just questions that will get me to understand more about what his ad play looks like. First, it's good to know that Joel 11 days ago didn't know how to run ads.
I had never done a paid ad before all of my Everything was organic up to this point. So I basically taught myself through AI on how to set up the ads and Was able to through Claude Set everything up through the template
Okay. So now if you're already like, Oh, I've never run ads. I don't really know what I'm doing. Neither did he. And by the way, you were already a gym that had how many members?
So we're at about a thousand members now.
a thousand members before you ever even ran a Facebook ad. What kind of gym do you have? Just so they know what kind of, it's not like a big box gym with like.
So we have 17,000 square feet. We do CrossFit, High Rocks, personal training, small group. And then I just added a full commercial gym with infrared and stone saunas.
Okay. And your CrossFit gym, that's like one of the things within that 17 square feet, right? Exactly. You got a lot of things in there. So we have
six different rooms now, all doing different things at the same time, which allows us to bring in revenue continuously on the same hours throughout the entire day.
Okay. All right. So let's dive in. Now that you know, guys never run a Facebook ad up until 10 days ago. And he learned it using Claude, which if you're not familiar, it's just a better version of Chastity in a lot of ways. So let's talk about your strategy. So go
ahead. So when I set this up, me and my
Episode notes
This is part of how we help gym owners build ad systems like Joel's. See the plan here:
Joel Holland never ran a gym ad in 14 years. He used AI to build his first campaign. $3 cost per lead. 84 leads in 10 days. Here's how.
This gym Facebook ads using AI breakdown starts with Joel Holland, who runs 902 Athletics, a 17,000 square foot CrossFit and commercial gym in a 9,000 person market in Nova Scotia, Canada. In 14 years of business he had never run a paid ad. Everything was organic and referral based.
Ten days before this conversation, Joel taught himself how to run gym ads using Claude, an AI tool, and built his entire campaign from scratch. No agency. No prior experience. The result was a $3 cost per lead, compared to the $20 to $35 most gyms are paying right now, and 84 leads in 10 days.
Mike and Joel walk through the exact setup: the lead objective, the offer, the 34 second video ad, and why Joel wanted to learn ads himself before ever handing the account to an agency. They also cover why most agencies get bad results even when the technical setup is correct, and what the Meta algorithm actually does to gym ads that lose attention in the first two seconds.
If you have been told paid ads do not work for your gym, this look at gym Facebook ads using AI might change your mind.
