Now, the consensus is that the MVP for the Silver Ferns last night was defender Kelly Jackson, who helped the Ferns to beat Australia 56-50. And she's with us. Kelly, hello. Hello. How's it going? You sound like you are stoked after last night, aren't you?
Yeah, pretty pleased. Always a good feeling to beat those Aussies and always good to kick the series off to a good start.
Yeah. So you got one down. Do you reckon you guys can sweep the series?
We back ourselves to do that. We know if we win the next three, we've got that world number one spot, and we haven't been in that spot since 2013, and this is probably the closest we've come to being within reach of that number one spot in a while. So we're going to give it all we've got.
Mate, isn't it remarkable when you think, where you guys have been as a squad in the last couple of years, and then almost at number one, that is quite a turnaround, eh?
It's... It's pretty surreal to think about, but then I also think about all the hard work that was put into this dress and training and to creating an environment moving past what had happened last year. I think we can all really pat ourselves on the back for how far we've come and what we've been able to achieve. being able to put ourselves in the place we are in this moment.
And there's heaps to look forward to, as you say, number one, winning the series. You've got the domestic competition. Have you got any news on that?
Not yet. I know that they're still ticking away in the background with all the legalities and whatnot. So hopefully we hear soon what the goal is with that. And
then you've
got the big 3-0
coming up this week, yeah?
Yes, Thursday. I was going to say before, I think it's my about my eighth or ninth birthday on tour. So very lucky I get my birthday cake with the girls.
Are you allowed cake if you're a professional netballer or is this going to be some sort of a healthy option? Yeah, no. If someone's got a birthday on tour, we get cake for
dessert that night. Oh, brilliant. We're very lucky, yeah. The
nutritionist manages to fit that in the menu. Oh, good stuff, mate. Look, congratulations on being the MVP and looking forward to seeing you guys at number one. That's Kelly Jackson, Silver Ferns goalkeeper.
