[upbeat music] Pressing the newsmakers to get the real story. It's Heather Duplessis Allen Drive with One New Zealand. Phone dollars are for phones, obviously. Newstalk ZB.
Good afternoon. Welcome to the show. Coming toda- coming up today, Starship will explain to us why it is that they've paused some cancer treatments for kids, lifelong Black Power member Dennis O'Reilly on the Greens and the mob, and New Zealand First has a combat sports policy. Who knew?
Heather Duplessis Allen.
Unbelievably, the Greens have made this mongrel mob business so much worse today. They are now talking about funding the mob again to run the meth programs. Now, this is mind-blowingly dumb from the Greens three weeks out from an election that is as close as it is. What they should have done after those pictures of them meeting with Harry Tam at the gang pad came out yesterday was say, "Yep, it's fine to meet with gang members. Not fine to pose for photos with your thumbs up with the gang members. Shouldn't have done that. Sorry about it." But what they did instead was that they doubled down. They defended it. They even went as far as saying they still wanna remove the gang patch ban, and they're open to refunding the gang. 'Cause remember Labour did this. Labour put the $2.75 million in of the taxpayers' money for the meth program. They're open to doing that again. Now, I heard an interview with Marama Davidson today that blew my mind. She was asked how it was that she could meet with the mob when the mob is made up of men, some of those men in there will have raped women, and she defended it. But then when she was asked if she would also apply the same rule and defend, uh, and meet with Destiny Church, it was a no, because Destiny had put out violently harmful racist dialogue. Which is to say that Marama Davidson and the Green Party thinks that racism is worse than rape, which is the most offensive moral inversion that I think I have ever heard from these people. Yesterday I said to you, this is not as bad for the Greens as the Materia Ture welfare fraud thing, which totally crashed their polling. Now I think they really need to be careful that they don't let it get that bad, because this has the potential, like this is going in that direction, and this has the potential to really blow up on them if they don't watch out. I also said to you yesterday I thought this was actually worse for Labour because it would chase away Labour's swing voters. I don't think that anymore. Labour have shut this down well. Last night in the debate, Chris Hipkins condemned it exactly like he should've. The Greens, though, are now the ones at risk. They risk pushing even their most open-minded voters beyond what those people are prepared to accept, and driving those people to opportunity. I would not be surprised if a lot of them have already peeled away. I don't know how big the number would be. There was a way for the Greens to handle this. Yesterday, this situation was still absolutely rescuable. There was a way to handle it. But doubling down, and then talking about giving millions of dollars potentially to the same gang was not the way to handle it.
