UK correspondent Enda Brady is with us. Hello, Enda. Hello,
Heather. Thanks for having me again.
What has happened with Starlink?
so it would appear that at the bequest of the president of the united states elon musk has switched it off for ukraine there is something called star shield which is a military-grade version of starlink musk's satellites in space and overnight it went on the go slow for the whole of ukraine funnily enough nowhere else in europe just the whole of ukraine and the end result is what the ukrainians were using to detect Russian jets and jet-powered drones coming in and ballistic missiles. That has weakened their air defenses and towns and cities have been hit. Families have been wiped out. And on top of that, they're also using Starshield to launch their own drones. And all that capability and power has been taken away from Ukraine. Zelensky is in town. He spent the day in London. He met the King. He had an unprecedented guard of honor on the steps of number 10 Downing Street. And then he saved his words for an interview with Piers Morgan, which has now been released. And he said he feels betrayed. Right. So why would Donald Trump do that? Because I think it's quite clear now Trump is siding with Russia. I mean, let's just call it out because he's done this huge deal to buy millions of barrels of diesel from Putin. So that gives the Russian war machine even more cash to keep going. And I think Ukraine is in for the worst winter of the last five now because Putin has money coming in to keep the war machine going. Ukraine's air defenses are weakened by this decision over Starlink and Starshield. And I think it's clear Trump just sees the midterms coming and he wants Ukraine to capitulate.
Right. So obviously, Zelensky's a pretty smart PR guy and he will have chosen P.S. Morgan for a reason. Will it achieve his aim? Will it get the message out far and wide enough?
Everyone's talking about it, but ultimately Trump doesn't care and Musk is doing what he's been told by the president of the United States. I think it's a disgrace what's happened. And you really feel for the people of Ukraine, because ultimately this is going to see Russia kill Ukrainian families.
Is there also pressure, though, on Europe to fill the gap here?
There is, but people are doing their absolute best. I mean, they've got support from the UK, from France and Germany, but this technology is controlled by America. And it was a game changer. I mean, Ukrainians have been making a lot of advances the last few months. I mean, I've been struggling to get pro-Russian voices to even come and speak on my show to defend what they're doing. So, you know, Ukraine has stung them. Ukraine has hurt them. And now, I think with the winter coming and... all the attacks on energy infrastructure, you just really feel for what the people of Ukraine are going through and will go through.
Yeah, it's going to be tough. How's it going with Russell Brand?
So day one of his trial, seven charges against him. Three of those charges are of rape. They're all sexual offences, which he denies. He denies all of the charges. He arrived in court accompanied by his wife, Laura, at Southwark Crown
2Episode notes
Ukrainian soldiers have had their use of Starlink terminals restricted by Elon Musk's firm SpaceX.
Officials in Kyiv say new limitations on the military-grade version have disrupted drone missions, and Musk has since claimed the US is behind this move.
UK correspondent Enda Brady says Volodymyr Zelenskyy is in London, and he feels 'betrayed' by this, and he's said as much in interviews.
