Ukraine negotiators are due to hold talks with US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in Miami today. US officials said discussions would focus on a new proposal covering all aspects of the Russia-Ukraine war to try to end hostilities. Our correspondent, Fiona Mitchell.
After one of the most brutal weeks in Ukraine since this war began, negotiators from Kyiv head to the United States today for further talks about a peace process that has been stalled for months now. Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky accused the United States yesterday of an unwillingness to help his country after a Russian bomb attack killed over 30 people in the east of the country, sending the two-day death toll from Russian strikes to over 70. Hours after the attack on the embattled city of Kramatorsk, Mr. Zelensky criticized Washington's effort to pursue economic ties with Russia while also seeking to mediate the more than four-year-old war. Mr. Zelensky says he expects European allies to join the talks in the United States, which are expected to take place over the course of two days.

The position was made vacant by former president of Ireland, Mary McAleese, who stepped down last month, saying there was significant uncertainty around a previously agreed and publicly announced roadmap. Mr. Horan was GAA president from 2018 until 2021. He said that to be asked to chair the group and work with those committed to having a new dawn for Gaelic games was a responsibility and privilege he was excited to take on.

The announcement comes amid heightened debate in the US over the death penalty following the botched lethal injection of a Tennessee woman last week. The US Defense Secretary, Pete Hegsaid, said Hasan's execution would be live-streamed and explained why it was taking place at Fort Hood.
Uh, Army Major betrays his country, radical Islamist kills a bunch of Americans at Fort Hood. Of course, we're gonna do it at Fort Hood. Gonna do it on a Thursday, we're gonna do it at 1:00, which is when he did it, and it's gonna be soldiers with rifles executing the firing squad. Uh, it hadn't been since World War II since we've done that. Well, I kinda like the mentality we had in World War II, which
