Hello and welcome to Lockdown Red Sox, your daily Boston Red Sox podcast. I'm your host, Gabby Maljanian, and today's episode is brought to you by FanDuel. College football Saturdays are already packed with reasons to get excited, and this season, FanDuel is giving fans even more ways to get in on every matchup. Join all of the action at FanDuel.com. Hello, hello. Happy Thursday. Welcome to the show. I apologize to those of you who are typical morning commute listeners. I promise I will get back on that schedule. Just some late Boston nights this week from games that have gotten me back late and it ends up just being super exhausting and I am unable to end up getting those episodes out for the early morning commute. But I will be back on that schedule very, very soon overall. So thank you for bearing with me, especially those who listen every single day. Genuinely really appreciate all of you. But on today's show, Sadam Raffaella exited last night's game early. I'm going to be giving an update on him. Plus Roman Anthony coming in hot since coming off the IL and what that means for the Red Sox. Plus the starting rotation. Can they actually be trusted? And the reason I asked this question is because the Red Sox lost yet another game last night, eight to three. to the Seattle Mariners. And this has become over the last few games, a pattern of the Red Sox giving up lots of runs. They really aren't getting the pitching that they need overall. And yesterday's game was another example of that. Patrick Sandoval made the start for the Red Sox. and he retired the side in the first two innings, but then he ran into a struggle, letting the Mariners take a 4-0 lead. The first run scored on a wild pitch, and then he allowed an RBI single to Julio Rodriguez to drive in another run, and then Josh Naylor scored Seattle's third run on another RBI single, and then there was a bad throw from Jaron Duran that allowed
Episode notes
The Boston Red Sox pitching woes raise postseason concerns—can Chad Tracy trust this rotation when it matters most? Gabby Maljanian scrutinizes shaky recent outings from Patrick Sandoval, Ranger Suárez, Payton Tolle, and Jake Bennett, questioning which arms (besides ace Sonny Gray) are truly playoff ready. The bullpen’s struggles and mounting fatigue add urgency as the Red Sox cling to their Wild Card cushion.
Roman Anthony’s return electrifies the lineup, fueling hope with his hot bat and leadoff spark. Meanwhile, Ceddanne Rafaela’s quad injury looms large as the team navigates a critical series against the Baltimore Orioles. Maljanian spotlights Willson Contreras’ IL stint, Adley Rutschman’s elbow worries, and how injuries could impact Boston’s October dreams. Can the Red Sox pitching staff regroup in time, or will recent trends derail a promising postseason run?
