Red Sox headed to the Bronx to face the Yankees once again in the wildcard round, just like they did a year ago. And this time they're hoping for a different result. So on today's show, I'm going to be talking about all of that. What would it actually mean to beat the Yankees? What even was this season for the Boston Red Sox and a rematch to remember? Because Here we go again, Red Sox-Yankees-Yankee Stadium wildcard series for the second consecutive year. Tuesday night at 8 o'clock, the entire 162-game season gets reduced to a best-of-three series against the Yankees. And if that sounds familiar, it should, because the Red Sox were in this exact spot a year ago going into Yankee Stadium for the 2025 Wild Card Series, and it didn't exactly work out in their favor. They won game one, had an opportunity to knock the Yankees out, but then New York came storming back and won the next two. And it was absolutely painful. Season over for the Red Sox, and some of the veterans on the team last year basically said to these guys, remember how this feels. It really stings. you probably don't want to feel that again. So I'm hoping they show up to Yankee Stadium this time with some added motivation to get revenge for last year. So same teams, same stadium, same round, but this is not the same Red Sox team. This is a different Red Sox team than last year for multiple reasons. This matchup is about more than whether the Red Sox can score enough runs or which starter Chad Tracy chooses. This is a rematch. It's a culmination of one of the strangest Red Sox seasons that I truly can remember. And if the Red Sox can do what they couldn't do one year ago, then the entire season suddenly becomes something much bigger. Red Sox-Yankees in October, again, I mean, let's face it, this is great for baseball. You want this rivalry. You want the Red Sox to face the Yankees in the postseason because it gets everybody extra excited about watching the playoffs. So it feels meant to be that the Red Sox versus Yankees series would be happening. It's too bad it's just a best-of-three series. I wish these two teams would be meeting in the later rounds, but here we are. I love it. If you're going to get into the postseason, give me this, the rivalry, Yankee Stadium, all of it. Give me the chance to be the ones to send the Yankees home. And that's the mindset these guys should have going into it is these guys beat us last year. We want to come in and get revenge. And here's something that surprised me. We think of Red Sox-Yankees as the baseball

Episode notes

The Boston Red Sox seek redemption in high-stakes Wild Card showdown against the New York Yankees. Can Chad Tracy’s squad overcome last year’s heartbreak and flip the script in the Bronx? The Red Sox look to capitalize on their dramatic mid-season resurgence, fueled by Roman Anthony’s perseverance and a record-setting win streak that reignited their postseason hopes.

Gabby Maljanian unpacks the team’s improbable turnaround, Chad Tracy’s leadership after Alex Cora’s exit, and the resilience that has defined this 2026 roster. Key topics include Aaron Judge’s injury status, tactical keys for silencing Yankee Stadium, and why eliminating New York would mean more than just advancing to the ALDS against the Tampa Bay Rays. Will Boston’s “next man up” mentality—and Willson Contreras’s return—be enough to rewrite playoff history against their fiercest rivals?
