The Red Sox are officially going back to October, but the biggest decisions are just beginning.

Hello and welcome to Locked On Red Sox, your daily Boston Red Sox podcast. I'm your host, Gabby Maljanian, and today's episode is brought to you by Kelshi. For a limited time, download Kelshi and use code LOCKEDON to get $25 when you trade $25. Kelshi, trade, what's next? Hello, happy Tuesday. Welcome to the show. Red Sox have officially made the big dance, but some questions remain about the postseason roster construction, who to trust offensively, postseason roster decisions when it comes to pitching, and is Peyton Tolley the game one starter? That's all being talked about on today's show. Welcome back in. I know I had touched yesterday a little bit on The Red Sox clinching a postseason spot. But now it's time to make that a little bit more. Dig a little bit deeper into what that could potentially look like for this Boston Red Sox team now that they're officially in. And I want to appreciate... How absolutely ridiculous that sentence would have sounded three months ago. Because on June 25th, the Red Sox were 32-46, 14 games under .500. So the playoffs weren't even a topic of conversation. And a lot of people, myself included, were literally having discussions about who they should trade if they were going to be sellers at the trade deadline. The comeback has been miraculous, and everybody involved deserves credit for being part of that. So that should be appreciated no matter what. They're now 84-72. So since that point on June 25th, the Red Sox have gone 52-26, which is a miraculous record. That's a 667 winning percentage over 78 games. They had the 15-game winning streak that tied the franchise record during this time. They went 32-5 during one stretch from June 25th through August 7th. And they became the first team in MLB history to make the postseason after losing at least 46 of the first 78 games. So that's actually insane. But now the conversation shifts a little bit. It's no longer can the Red Sox make the playoffs. Now it's what version of the Red Sox are going to show up once they get there. And Peyton Tolley gets the first opportunity tonight to make one of those
Episode notes
The Boston Red Sox make history with an epic turnaround, clinching a postseason berth after a midseason slump. Is Payton Tolle the surprise Game 1 starter over veterans Sonny Gray and Ranger Suárez? Gabby Maljanian breaks down the fierce battle for rotation spots, Tolle’s breakout stretch, and the Red Sox’s unprecedented run to October glory.
Key discussion points include the pitching depth dilemma, with Garrett Whitlock, Brayan Bello, and Garrett Crochet competing for crucial bullpen roles, and bold roster moves like a potential call-up for speedster Braiden Ward. On the offensive side, Trevor Story heats up, while Jarren Duran and Wilyer Abreu face pressure to regain form. Injuries to Willson Contreras and Ceddanne Rafaela add intrigue as Boston eyes a deep playoff push. Can the Red Sox maximize their roster and sustain this momentum under the postseason spotlight?
