College football is back in Iowa, which means Saturdays are officially spoken for. Here in Iowa, we know it's about the tailgate. The black and gold everywhere, a little back and black happening on the speakers, and do it with a Captain Morgan drink in hand. Having a great time and get ready for the game. Don't overthink it. Rally the crew. Pour a Captain and Cola and Captain while you can. Enjoy responsibly Captain's orders. Captain Morgan Rum Company, New York, New York.

The group was always unified and believing that we were better than we were playing, and that credit goes to the players.

What's up, everyone? Welcome to another episode of Locked On Red Sox, your daily Boston Red Sox podcast. I'm your host, Gabby Maljanian, and today's episode is brought to you by FanDuel. It's time to put your knowledge to the test with College Football Pick'Em from FanDuel. Download the FanDuel app and play College Football Pick'Em for free. Only on FanDuel. Hello, hello. Happy Wednesday. Welcome in to the show. We finally have the answer to a question that hasn't felt like much of a question for a while. Chad Tracy is officially the manager of the Boston Red Sox. No more interim tag. No waiting until the offseason. No managerial search. The Red Sox announced on Tuesday that Trace has signed a three-year contract through the 2029 season with a club option for 2030. And they didn't stop there. Craig Breslow is sticking around too. Boston exercised its club options on Breslow for 2029 and 2030, meaning the Red Sox are essentially committed to the Breslow-Tracy partnership for the foreseeable future. Both announcements tell us something pretty significant about how ownership views what happened this season. If you go back five months, Alex Cora had just been fired. The Red Sox were 10 and 17. Six coaches were gone and Chad Tracy was summoned from Worcester. Craig Breslow was facing enormous pressure after making one of the biggest decisions of his career. Then you fast forward to today. The Red Sox are going to the playoffs, Tracy has the permanent job, Breslow has additional years of security, and suddenly instead of talking about organizational instability, the Red Sox are now betting on continuity. So today I'm going to dive into why Tracy absolutely earned this opportunity, why the Breslow decision is a little more complicated, and then what these moves tell us about where the Red Sox are going next. So we have to start with Chad Tracy because this isn't really a surprise, but I'm glad the Red Sox didn't play games

Episode notes

The Boston Red Sox lock in their future, naming Chad Tracy as manager and extending Craig Breslow’s contract after a historic turnaround and playoff push. Can this new leadership duo finally restore championship glory to Fenway Park?

Gabby Maljanian breaks down Tracy’s journey from interim skipper to leading the Red Sox through a record-setting 27-3 stretch, shining a light on his clubhouse relationships and developmental focus. The episode unpacks Craig Breslow’s impact—overhauling the pitching pipeline with arms like Payton Tolle and Brayan Bello, but not without roster missteps and questions about consistency. Key topics include Boston’s strategy for postseason success, the challenge of maximizing young talent such as Roman Anthony and Wilyer Abreu, and how the Tracy-Breslow partnership could define the club’s direction through 2030. Will the Red Sox’s bet on organizational continuity finally pay off with a deeper playoff run?
