197 turns · 1 hr 3 minWelcome to the Jazz Notes Podcast. I'm Ben Anderson. I'm Chandler Holt. We are recording this on September 14th. We are less than three weeks away from the first Utah Jazz preseason game. We are two weeks away, I believe, from media camp, though I've not gotten that affirmed, but that's going to be media day, I would imagine, is the 28th. So... Coming up on the season very, very quickly. Again, a week from today, some teams across the NBA, a couple, will be opening their media day. So basketball is very, very quickly approaching. We will get your mailbag questions coming up in the second half of the episode, as we always do. But we've got a couple of things to talk about, which, you know, last time we kind of broke down the on-ball guards. I think today we'll talk about off-ball guards and the wings. And then next week we will talk about kind of the front court. And then we'll be into media day, I assume. So going to be a busy couple of weeks here, but a lot to talk about. This is probably the biggest group of players on the team, which is funny because it kind of seemed like this was a shallow depth of players last year. And now it feels like there's so many players. We're probably squeezing some guys into some wrong spots.
Considering last week, I think our premise was almost like guys who will play the one, at least for spurts. Ball and hand guards. Guys who are
going to be in charge of playmaking.
With the additions of Josh Okogie and Josh Green, we're talking about, including Lowry, five guys today. A full spot of the Jazz roster.
Let's talk about who they are. That will be Lowry Markkinen, Josh Green, Ace Bailey, Josh Okogie, Bryce Sensabaugh, We kind of touched on Svi last week, though I think he's going to fit into this role a little bit, though we will see. I guess we'll keep Flip as a frontcourt player, even though I think there's some 3-4 there. He might end up being more 4-5. But that's basically the group. And we'll start with Lowry Markin, who I think has one of the more interesting seasons coming up, because Jazz make this trip to Finland to see him. There's certainly some recognition that, like, He was the team's leading scorer last year. I also think he's the player, even though his scoring talent and value is so high, could see the biggest drop in scoring of anyone on the team.
Yeah, it's really interesting looking at, and this has been a talking point for us for a bit now, looking at the Jazz's top three players, Larry Markin and Triple J and Keontae. And I really think, in terms of points per game, any combination of those three could end up playing out. Like, you could look at other teams and be like, oh, Alper and Sangun could score more than Kevin Durant for the Houston Rockets, but I genuinely think any combination could happen. Larry could fall down to the... third leading scorer just because Keontae and Jaron get more opportunities like with sort of with the ball in their hands. Or he could just continue to do what he has done for the last four years. The offense has ran through him with all the pin downs and player movement. And again, he's at 23 plus points per game. Yeah, he's just
such a unique player to look at in
