145 turns · 51 minWelcome to the Jazz Notes Podcast. I'm Ben Anderson. I'm Chandler Holtz. We are recording this on August 11th. It is the slow part of the season, but if you've looked at the Utah Jazz Instagram page, it seems like a lot of the players are in town. Some guys are off doing other workouts in Los Angeles, but starting to circle a little bit. We're getting a little bit closer to the season, and then three weeks from now, it's like everybody's going to be back, and then we're going to be gearing up for... Media Day and training camp. It's going to be here quick. It's only a few episodes away, truthfully. And with that, there are a few little news and notes. Notably, we'll get into the opening day games that have been announced so far already, not including the Utah Jazz. No surprise there. But the Jazz did sign a player, Terrell Brown Jr. Well, they haven't yet. You look at the NBA transactions page. He has not been signed. But it sounds like he's going to be invited to camp or something, which means somebody else has to go somewhere else because the Jazz's roster is actually full, even for the summer roster. Yeah.
Yes, you talked about this. Right now, I think the Jazz have 22 players, and they have to cut down to 21 during the offseason, right? If Terrell Brown Jr. signs,
they will have
22
players, which you can't do. You can only carry 21. So if he's actually signing, somebody has to leave before they can even make that official. I don't care to speculate who that's going to be. I don't know. Maybe somebody signed in Europe. Maybe somebody got a better contract. Maybe the Jazz... Aren't going to bring somebody around. Don't think it's worth it. Maybe somebody's hurt. Those are all certainly options. So I'm not going to speculate that it's like Keontae's hurt. That's not what's going on. There could be any number of reasons this is the case. So I would keep an eye on Terrell Brown Jr. and see how that works. But Chris Haynes reported that. And if Chris Haynes reported it, it's worthwhile news. Otherwise, yeah, the opening day games have been announced.
Yeah, opening day and Christmas. On opening day, kind of a... Something different. I mean, it's sort of a different way with this. The reigning champion ring ceremony is not the first game of the NBA season. It'll actually be Detroit versus Boston. That game is at 1 p.m. Mountain Time. All these times I'll give you I put in Mountain Time. And then it is the New York Knicks versus LeBron in the Philadelphia 76ers on opening day. That game's at 5 p.m. And then closing out the night with San Antonio versus Oklahoma City at 730 p.m. So there's three games.
Yes. OK, cool. I thought they only did two last year, but you're probably right. Or maybe there was only two nationally televised games and there's like another random third that wasn't on. Obviously, the Knicks and the Sixers will be nationally televised. Yes. So and
then what was the second game? Spurs. The third game of the day is Spurs versus Thunder.
That one will also be nationally televised, and I'm not sure the other one will be. But I don't know. I don't know exactly how it's going to work. And what's the day?
That is opening day. Oh, let me pull
