Welcome to the Jazz Notes Podcast. I'm Ben
Anderson. I'm Chandler Holt. We are
recording this on September 8th, a day late because of Labor Day yesterday, but our first podcast of the month, I
think. Yeah.
I think we just did the last of August last week, and that means we are officially in a basketball week 20 days from today, or basketball month, I should say, 20 days from today. I believe the Jazz will open training camp. They'll have media day, I think, again on the 28th. That's kind of been our guess. That's when teams around the league are doing it. But amazingly, two weeks from yesterday, there will be some teams that already start because the teams that are playing internationally will start on the 21st. So we are right around the corner from real... basketball, at least kind of on the horizon. You're going to see some preseason games. So that's coming up very quickly, which is always exciting. Of course, we'll have all your coverage for you at kslsports.com. You can find me on social media, Ben's Hoops, Reed Chandler at Seaholt Sports. We will get to your mailbag over the second half of this podcast, but we have a couple things we wanted to talk about. First of all, leading up three weeks from now to the training camp for the Jazz, we kind of want to just preview the position groups, guards, wings, frontcourt, Yep. So we will talk about the guards a little bit today. But you also had an article on how much better the Jazz can be defensively. And you kind of took a survey of fans where they thought the Jazz could get. And I thought it was pretty accurate, the reflection. The one person I think said the Jazz top five defensively. I'm not sure that's going to happen. But it can kind of lead us into the guards where Jaron Jackson Jr. is a good defensive player. That's
the
frontcourt.
Yep.
The guards, I don't think we have any idea how good these guys are going to be defensively. Keontae George has been one of the worst defenders in the NBA since he got into the league. Like anything, I don't know what that means. I don't know what anything that's happened with the Jazz over the last three years since Keontae has been here actually applies. Now, if he wanted to be better, he would have tried harder, and he's not. Does just trying hard make him a good defensive player? How is Isaiah Collier going to fit into this? And then Darren Peterson, who's got the best defensive resume, bizarrely, having never played an NBA game, but was a much better defensive player at Kansas than either Keontae George was at Baylor or certainly Isaiah was at USC. Can he come in and actually make an impact?
Yeah. So in my article, I wrote each of the last three
