Welcome to the Jazz Notes Podcast. I'm Ben Anderson.
I'm Chandler
Holt. We are recording this on August 31st, the last day of August, meaning next month will be basketball season. Utah Jazz, I believe, will start their training camp and get that going, but we do have a lot to talk about today. We have over 30 questions in the mailbag, which might be a record. Yeah. Maybe... the most since the Jazz won the lottery or moved up to number two and maybe even more than some of those. I can't remember exactly, but we will get to your questions as many as possible. There are some duplicates there, but we will obviously address the latest news, which is the Utah Jazz on Friday night traded Cody Williams and John Conjar to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Josh Green. Not a lot of late August trades in the NBA, but there was a deadline for this to try and get in before players had to be waived for August 31st and all kinds of weird stuff.
Yeah, Josh Green, last year for the Charlotte Hornets, 4.3 points, shot 42% from three. Obviously, he went over to Minnesota. This was a trade with the Timberwolves. He was acquired in the LaMelo Ball trade as well.
He was a throw-in. Yes, he was a throw-in and now gets redirected to the Jazz before he ever suits up. for minnesota um quickly let me ask you what do you think this
trade was about um i in the we got a bunch of coverage on ksl sports.com about this bunch of articles out that you guys can go read um one of the points that was made was that i think this is a hit for the jazz on multiple levels one you bring in a guy who compared to cody williams at least a bit more consistent maybe you know a bit more what you're going to get he brings shooting he brings that defensive presence but then also he immediately steps in as the third highest paid player on the jazz roster He's a little over 14 male before the top two were Lowry and Jaron Jackson. And then third highest was Darren Peterson, who just signed his second pick salary. So, yeah, Josh Green comes in and is now third highest paid. And I think that is useful. Not saying he's already on his way out the door, but just having that contract could end up being useful in trade talks down the road.
One of the things I had said was the Jazz were going to sign Walker Kessler no matter what because they needed that $30 million contract. Now, again, pure speculation on this point. What would the actual deal, what would it have been if the Jazz had said we're matching any number of Lakers, give them any number. The Lakers might have signed him to $39 million and then all of a sudden he becomes untradeable and that's no value to the Jazz. Unless they were just going to start him and he was going to become an all-star.
