Okay. An author, speaker, trainer, and consultant who teaches the warrior-servant leader mindset. Pat's story began in an orphanage in Dublin, Ireland, where he was left just three days after birth. 16 months later, he was adopted by an American family. His life journey eventually led him into a remarkable career as a lawyer, police executive, nationally recognized speaker, and criminal justice trainer. After spending more than 25 years in law enforcement, including leadership in ch- challenging environments, Pat developed a deep understanding of what it means to lead through crisis, serve others, and remain committed to integrity and purpose. Today, we explore his personal journey, the meaning of the warrior-servant leadership, the importance of faith, workplace culture, community leadership, community relationship, and how we can become better leaders at home, at work, and in our community. Pat, welcome to Telling My Story, and it's a pleasure to have you here with us today.

All right, Pat. Your life story began in an orphanage in Dublin, Ireland, before you were adopted by an American family. Can you take us back through your early journey and explain how those experiences shaped the person and leader you've become?

Great question. Uh, of course, I wa- I was little, so I, I don't... And, and I'm almost 69 now, so I, [chuckles] I don't have a, a deep memory of, of, uh, actually living in the orphanage because I was, you know, almost a year and a half old when I was adopted. But what I did learn at growing up, 'cause it, m- my experience was very different from the rest of the kids in the neighborhood. Uh, one, nobody else [clears throat] in, in the neighborhood was adopted. And two, uh, when I was five and a half years old, I had to go to court, uh, to become a U.S. citizen. So that was really different, you know, kinda being a little kid, and you're walking into a massive courtroom, federal courtroom, and there's other people there. And, uh, so I grew up knowing, uh, [tsks] that I was different in, in many ways, uh, including where I was born. Uh, you know, people would go, "Oh, you know, where were you born?" I'd go, "Dublin, Ireland," and they'd go, "Oh, your dad was in the military, huh?" And I'm like, "No, uh, I was adopted." So I grew up with that realization, and one of the most important lessons I've learned over the last 60-plus years in this journey that we have [clears throat] is it's not important what happens to you in life. It's what happens in you that makes the difference. And so that was one of the l- early foundations that I got as a kid, is I was always gonna be treated differently
