Clinicians spend roughly two hours on EHR data entry for every one hour of direct patient care. That's this year, 2026. AI canon does solve that for doctors, therapists, and nurses, but the problem is getting the tech to where it needs to be. In a survey from the Digital Medicine Society, 72% of healthcare leaders said workflow integration is the single biggest barrier to AI adoption ahead of training gaps and leadership waffling. Today's guest is fixing exactly that. His company, VIM, builds the rails that carry AI straight into the point-of-care tools where clinicians already are, so they can give those two hours back to patients and not paperwork. Welcome back to Humanify Health Tech, where we explore how AI is writing the rules of healthcare and putting people back at the center where they belong. I'm your host, Brian Chee, Senior Director of Content at NetHealth. Today, I'm joined by Oran Afek, co-founder and CEO of Vim, a digital infrastructure company that... clears the path for value-based care by connecting physicians, payers, and developers in a frictionless AI-powered ecosystem that delivers real impact at the point of care. Before VIM, Oran served in the special forces of the Israeli military and built four companies in telecommunications, gaming, real estate, and education. Interestingly, not healthcare. He says he went into healthcare to make an impact and as such built VIM to run less like a typical health tech vendor and more like Uber or Amazon. Oran, thanks for joining us today.
Thanks, Matt, for having me. Excited to be here.
Good to have you. You've said that you've built VIM to run less like a typical health tech vendor and more like an infrastructure other people build on top of. What did that instinct come from? What was it about healthcare specifically that made you think that was the missing piece?
Yeah, that's a good question. I think the initial incarnation of Vim started back in 2015. And the original premise was, you know, we would start with a patient-facing intervention. We actually called it BookMD before Vim was even the formal name. And we would allow patients to select care in places that are more, I would call them high value, which is lower cost, better outcomes or similar outcomes. And the premise was if we can make it as easy as shopping on Amazon, people would change their behavior. use a platform that can lead them to a $300 versus a $3,000 MRI scan with the same five Tesla MRI machine with even maybe the same radiologist that reads the same image. In the morning, they're doing this in a freestanding facility called Glendale MRI. In the evening, they'll do it at Cedars-Sinai for 10x the cost. That original premise, we thought, you know, we started with modalities of radiology. We would then go and expand it to minor surgeries, surgeries, colonoscopies and so on and so forth. But starting from a place where there's usually abundance of supply, like imaging, very low variation, relatively low variation in outcomes. and obviously very high variation of price. That's kind of where we started. So similar thesis to what Amazon started with books. Again, inventory is not a constraint. You can just print a book
2Episode notes
Clinicians spend roughly two hours on administrative tasks for every one hour of direct patient care. The tools to fix that exist. Getting them into the workflow is where everything breaks down.
Oron Afek, Co-Founder and CEO of Vim, joins host Brian Chee to break down why workflow integration remains the single biggest barrier to AI adoption in healthcare, and how Vim is building the infrastructure layer that lets AI tools reach clinicians at the exact moment care decisions are being made.
