You've been looking forward to this [electronic beep] [footsteps] [laughing] all week. And with Cutwater's cocktails, this [upbeat music] [glass clinking] [pouring] took only seconds, because tonight's about catching up, not catching the server. Whether it's our Cutwater lime margarita, lemon drop martini, or rum mai tai, they're expertly mixed and ready before the snacks hit the table. [glass clinking] Cutwater, expertly mixed cocktails. A perfect pairing for an evening with good company. Please enjoy responsibly. Must be 19 plus.

[upbeat music] There's, like, Build-A-Bear for bears. Like, we can be the, like, build-an-anything store. Like, I wanna be able to, like, go somewhere and just build, like, almost, like, what's that thing from Star Trek?

EH
Ellis Hamburger1:01

Captain Picard says-

AH
Alex Heath1:02

Tea, Earl Grey, hot.

Speaker 51:03

That beverage has not been programmed into the replication system.

[upbeat music] Sketch, sketch again, mold it, reshape it, trash it, and then start all over. This is how product design used to work for cars, shoes, clothes, and more, but one company is changing all that. Viscom is a new design tool for designing the real world, turning dream sketches into three concepts in minutes with AI, and companies like New Balance, Ford, Canon, and more are already using it. This week on Access, you'll hear the full story, from founder Jordan Taylor's first jobs at Honda and Nvidia, to building a tool for designing the future of, well, everything. Let's get into it. It's a funny time to be chatting with someone at the center of both hardware and software design. We have to talk about the Ferrari Luce, and we need to-

JT
Jordan Taylor1:52

Oh

EH
Ellis Hamburger1:52

... get your thoughts ASAP. What do you think?

JT
Jordan Taylor1:55

Oh, wow.

AH
Alex Heath1:55

First, how do you say Luce? Luce?

JT
Jordan Taylor1:58

Yeah, Luce.

AH
Alex Heath1:59

Luce?

JT
Jordan Taylor2:01

It's Luce.

EH
Ellis Hamburger2:03

Luce?

JT
Jordan Taylor2:03

I think it's Luce. Like Italian.

EH
Ellis Hamburger2:05

Yeah. Yeah.

JT
Jordan Taylor2:05

Like a, like an Italian, like, kind of vibe.

EH
Ellis Hamburger2:07

For light.

JT
Jordan Taylor2:08

Yeah. Yeah. No, I... You know, it's interesting. I actually like it as a product, right? Like, now, is it a Ferrari?

EH
Ellis Hamburger2:16

That came off like a serious burn. [laughs]

JT
Jordan Taylor2:21

[laughs] Okay, like, the brand, I don't know, like, Ferrari is the thing to represent that. As a product, maybe not, but, like, it standalone, no badges, like, I'm like, "Oh, this is great." This is, like, a great, like, product. I think just when you put the, like, Ferrari brand on it, it just sets such a, like, expectation or, like, preconceived notion that you're kinda like... It confuses you. I don't know. It's like an illusion, but I, I like it. I'm a fan. I'm actually a fan. I love the interior the most.

AH
Alex Heath2:48

I love the interior as well. I got to see the interior in person with Johnny, actually-

JT
Jordan Taylor2:53

Oh

AH
Alex Heath2:53

... a few months ago.

JT
Jordan Taylor2:54

Oh, wow.

AH
Alex Heath2:54

And it was crazy 'cause it, it was the first time that a car had been unveiled like this where they showed the interior to everyone before the exterior.

JT
Jordan Taylor3:03

Mm-hmm.

AH
Alex Heath3:03

And then they had another event before this that I didn't go to where they just talked about the, the drivetrain, or I don't even know

Episode notes

Alex and Ellis sit down with Jordan Taylor, founder of Vizcom, to talk about the AI design tool that lets anyone go from a rough sketch to a finished product. They discuss how Jordan built Vizcom out of a viral Reddit post during COVID, why a drawing is still a better creative input than a text prompt, and how hundreds of thousands of designers are already using it to design shoes, cars, and physical products. They also get into the caterpillar shoe that started as a doodle and became a 3D printed product you can actually wear, what the IKEA catalog looks like in 2030, and whether anyone will eventually be able to design and manufacture their own products from scratch.
