JK
Julie Koehrer0:04

Yeah, that's right. Not much. What's up with you?

JP
Jason Padgett0:06

What are you up to today?

JK
Julie Koehrer0:08

I'm going to my parents.

JP
Jason Padgett0:10

Okay.

JK
Julie Koehrer0:11

I have some errands to take care of to help with today and tomorrow.

JP
Jason Padgett0:18

You're such a good daughter.

JK
Julie Koehrer0:19

Yeah, you know, we got to get the things done so that way I can get them here and life can be a little more easy.

JP
Jason Padgett0:27

Okay, I love it.

JK
Julie Koehrer0:28

Thank you. Yeah.

JP
Jason Padgett0:30

And so you, you put your chat GPT subscription on hold because you're getting ready to go on vacation, right?

JK
Julie Koehrer0:35

Yes. I go, I leave for vacation next Saturday and I don't plan on doing any work. So I didn't want to, you know, if I actually want to put it to the test, I feel like I got to give it the full 30 days. So

JP
Jason Padgett0:49

I respect that.

JK
Julie Koehrer0:50

Yeah.

JP
Jason Padgett0:52

That's awesome. Well, I have been working on the biggest build I've ever done this weekend.

JK
Julie Koehrer0:58

Okay.

JP
Jason Padgett0:59

I have been deep in it. So I have three Mac minis now. I think I told you that. Did I tell you that?

JK
Julie Koehrer1:05

Yeah.

JP
Jason Padgett1:06

One is going to be a studio for running Minimax H3, which is the newest Chinese open source video model that runs almost free. So it can just kind of run in the background. One is going to be a... factory slash lab to test the work that i do at chakra we use foundation models so gemini open ai and anthropic romanian anthropic shop but we're going to try all test all those on open source models with an llm router to see if we can do it cheaper and just as effective just and safely And then one is actually an agent that is the first agent employee of that company, Chakra, that is kind of our main cloud project and main brain. And then I have my M5 studio, which, so I have four computers. So this weekend I have been working on how do I build an operating system where they can all talk to each other and just interact with me through one agent and a dashboard.

JK
Julie Koehrer2:09

How's that been going?

JP
Jason Padgett2:11

It's been interesting. It's been really interesting. Frustrating at some points in time. My daughter had a friend over, a male friend. I don't know if it was her boyfriend. Not the coldest beer in the fridge kid, but whatever. And on his phone all the time. I'm like, dude. I actually told him. I was like, hey, man. you know, if I was a girl and I invited you over and you had your nose in that phone, I wouldn't have you over again. Just, and my daughter's like, Ty's got real big. And I'm like, listen, she's like, and then afterwards she's like, that's how everybody is. Like they're always on their phones all the time. I'm like, that's just asinine. I mean, like if you're just hanging out with your pals, that's one thing. I don't agree with it, but that's, that's one thing. But if you're like on a date, if you're with the opposite sex and you, Your nose is in your phone all the time. No wonder this world is not going to be populated in the future.

JK
Julie Koehrer3:04

Right. No, it's a great way to distract from the discomfort that is, you know, figuring all that stuff out right at 15. And even as an adult, if you go out, well, you're married and, you know, all that. But social interaction can give you anxiety. I'm

just going to say, I think that there's a test that we have not been running, which is, These social media algorithms, which I know Facebook's settling for $17 billion and they're going to

SEX, DRUGS, AND SOCIAL MEDIA BANS

Meta’s multibillion-dollar settlement over alleged harm to young users raises an uncomfortable question: What happens when an algorithm becomes more compelling than the person standing beside you?

Jason Padgett and Julie Koehrer start with teenagers, dopamine, sex, drugs, and the stress created by a nonstop stream of bad news. Then the conversation turns to AI agents, reward hacking, micromanagement, data centers, surveillance, and why so many people feel technology is being done to them instead of built with them.

Jason shares the operating system he is building across four computers and explains why small organizations may get better results by defining the boundaries and desired outcome, then giving an AI agent room to find its own path.

The same principle keeps surfacing: people need agency. Whether the issue is social media restrictions, workplace AI, data centers, or Flock cameras, informed participation matters more than another decision handed down from above.

IN THIS EPISODE

• How social media may compete with normal human connection
• Why Jason is turning agent work into a points-based game
• How excessive process rules can encourage reward hacking
• Why AI agents and micromanaged employees take similar shortcuts
• What communities deserve to know before accepting data centers
• How surveillance technology can provide
