Irhamu man fil ardhi yarhamkum man fis-sama. Wa kama qala alaihi s-salatu wa s-salam. Sadaqallahu mawlana al-'azim wa sadaqa rasuluhu nabiyyu al-karim wa nahnu ala dhalika laminash shahidin wa shakirin walhamdulillahi rabbil 'alamin. It is from the fadl of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala that He brought us together to discuss the seerah of Rasulullahi sallallahu alaihi wasallam from various different aspects. In the past, when we were growing up, if there was a seerah conference, then there used to be just a paper passed out with black text on white paper. Sometimes it used to be green paper or yellow paper, random colors, and it would just say seerah jalsa or seerah conference, and that was about it. There was no theme or beautifully designed flyers with so much effort of our expert designers behind the scenes. But unfortunately, the way the times have gone, there are so many different things that have become-- we have made it, uh, mandatory upon ourselves because of the, the customs of the people that people are now used to, um, having all of these fancy themes and designs. This is something that I mention in the first session every year for those who are coming, um, repeatedly throughout the past they have come before. So what happens is that, uh, every year when we have the seerah conference, we come up with a unique theme for the year, um, to approach the seerah of Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wasallam from different perspectives. And this year, the one attribute of Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wasallam, one of his maqasid, one of his purposes for which he was sent, as Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala describes, is mubashir or bashir. Both mean the same thing, the bringer of glad tidings. And we wanted to focus on that. And at the beginning, right at the onset, I want to make it clear that it is intentional, in case we are wondering, that aren't there two sides of the coin? If Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wasallam was a bashir, he was also a nadhir, bringer of glad tidings and warnings. And we do not deny that. We affirm that. We affirm the entire ayah. The reality is that all of us have different anxieties in our life, different worries, different troubles that we're going through, things that are keeping us awake. And the ummah is in so much distress. And we come to the house of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala, we come to the masjid to hear some words of comfort. And the nadhir aspect, the warnings from Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wasallam, they were also not coming from any harshness, but also a manifestation of his love, that he wanted to protect us from the impending disaster and danger. That is the reason he was warning us. But our elders are teaching us and telling us, sharing with us, and we ourselves
