How much was your donation and did you use it as a tax write off? So when our local childcare facility became a $10 a day facility, Kaylee and I had a look at it and we certainly didn't need that discount. So we made the decision to donate the difference to our childcare provider so that other families could benefit. It's not necessary to shout. You asked your question and I was answering, Jordan. I told you very clearly that we paid the difference between what it was before and what it was after the $10 a day daycare.
That was NDP leader David Eby being questioned by GlobalBC's Jordan Armstrong for using $10 a day daycare when other families are on wait lists. I'm Robin Gill sitting in for Jazz Joe Hall on this Tuesday, October 13th. Well, Eby says his kid was already at the daycare when the policy came into play and that he and his wife decided to donate the difference in cost. This is going to dodge the NDP leader for the remainder of this campaign. And obviously this has happened much... I want to get into how do I get into the poll that we were initially set to discuss today. There is a new Research Co poll that has the BC Conservatives edging ahead of the NDP. But there is a plot twist there. NDP leader David Eby remains the preferred choice for premier. We're going to unpack all of this today with Mario Canseco, president of the Research Co. polling company. Mario, thanks so much for joining us in studio today.
My pleasure, Robin. Great to be here with you.
First, let's
talk about this issue that is hitting David Eby quite hard.
Well, usually when a story breaks on a weekend, you want to nip it out as quickly as possible. And this has had legs. You were talking about it still on a Tuesday. It's a complicated issue for them because ultimately you need to show that you made the donation, that you didn't benefit from it as far as taxes are concerned. And you need to explain what the difference was. And the fact that here we are 48 hours later still talking about what it could have meant. There was no paper trail. There's nothing. It's an issue that is going to continue to haunt the NDP and could actually become one of the questions in tomorrow's debate, which is definitely not where they want it to be.
Yeah, we want to mention that the debate will be heard here on CKNW right after the Jazz Joe Hall show. Let's talk about the fact that the tip on this whole daycare debacle issue was actually a tip from an NDPer. So that shows there's some fractures within this campaign.
Well, it's a it's a complicated issue because, you know, I've been fortunate enough to do the polling for the 10 a day child care foundation for the past 13 years. And it's an issue where we've seen the changes in other jurisdictions happen in front of our eyes when we started polling for them. Only Quebec had $7 a day childcare. Other provinces came in. Justin Trudeau implemented a kind of federal system. And now the province that lags behind most of them is B.C. So there's a sense of frustration on the fact that you have consecutive NDP administrations who chose not to do as much as they could have on something like this. So there's definitely frustration and also something
