590 turns · 1 hr 53 minGood afternoon. Thanks for your company on Drive, and thank you to Shane McGuinness for filling in during our break. All right, coming up on the program today, if you're a regular traveler through Melbourne Airport, the CEO of the airport, Laurie Argus, will join me in the studio. So what should I ask her? Because one thing I noticed while I was away is that something is going on at Melbourne Airport. And in the past, the airport would have a bad day. A number of flights would come in at once, and it would be a really long and tough day for passengers and staff. There would be two or three-hour delays. It wasn't uncommon, but it certainly wasn't every day. Look, it wasn't great, and it hasn't been a great experience for a long time. But what I would say, it wasn't something in terms of the passenger crush when international arrivals come into Melbourne that is now occurring every single morning. Every single day, these flights come in, and passengers after a long-haul flight and visitors to Melbourne, that is their first impression, a two-hour or more wait, a crush of people being put through like lemmings. This narrow, there's only one way in and one way out, this narrow passageway. And by the time you get to the kiosk or you go through customs the old-fashioned way and have your passport scanned by a person, you are talking a long, long wait, two to three hours with kids in tow after a long-haul flight. And on top of that, the airport has announced their new drop-off and pickup zone. And look, it has not gone down well online. So I'm gonna play you a little bit of the audio of the video that Melbourne Airport has put up on their so-socials, and needless to say, commuters and passengers are not happy. So this is the experience now compared to when you used to go up the ramp, and you could drop people off. This is the reality at Melbourne Airport now.
[gentle music] Is someone you know picking you up from the airport after you've flown Qantas, Virgin Australia, or an international airline? This is how you get to our new pickup zone from the terminals. Cross the pedestrian crossings and head towards the T123 transport hub. Take the lifts to level two. Exit lifts and turn left. Follow the arrows and turn right. Continue through to the T123 pickup waiting area. Once you know which zone your pickup car is waiting in, head out to the pickup area. For more information, take a look at the journey planner tool on our website.
Wow. [laughs] So you used to drop off at the door, and now that's what you have to do, or pick up. So 133693, drive@3aw.com.au. And the criticism online is what happens if you're elderly, what happens if you're in a wheelchair, and I'll ask Laurie from Melbourne Airport all of those questions, but it is not a good consumer experience, Melbourne Airport. So if you've been through regularly, and you've been on recently, and you've been stuck in this mess, I wanna hear from you today. 133693, drive@3aw.com.au, or you can text us, 0477693693. And on a more serious note, on top of that at the airport, we have the outrage that was revealed on 3AW Breakfast over the past few weeks and again this morning. So this is female, usually
