Here's an oldie but a goodie from the archives from the Side Hustle Show Greatest Hits collection. [upbeat music] 1,000 bucks a week tutoring on the side. What's up? What's up? Nick Loper here. Welcome to the Side Hustle Show, because your earning power doesn't have to stop when your day job does. Well, tutoring may check all those boxes, and we'll, uh, learn about that today. Matt Fuentes from Take Aim Tutoring is here. He's a teacher by day. He's a sought-after tutor after hours. Matt, welcome to the show.

Well, I appreciate you joining me. Longtime member of the Side Hustle Nation community. Like, what, you know, what gave you the qualifications [laughs] to become a tutor in the first place?
Gr- I... You know what's funny? I ne- th- Parents and students never ask me that when they start working with me. They're always just like, "We got your name. Can't wait to work with you." It's never just like, "So what did you get so that we know [laughs] that this is good?"
[laughs]
I didn't do really well, but I did well enough to, you know, kinda get into any school that I had applied to. And I think it's important because, you know, I wasn't the best test taker when I was a student. I really kinda hit my stride when I was getting my undergrad and then my bachelor's and then my master's degree, two master's degrees. That's when I kinda started clicking as a student, but I did pretty well. Pre-
All right. But that's... It's not something that parents are, like, testing you on, which is interesting.
It's so interesting. I've never been asked it once, and I've had, you know, hundreds and hundreds of students and, and never, [laughs] never asked. It doesn't matter how amazing or how lousy of a test taker you are, you can teach yourself these skills to be an amazing tutor to students out there who are taking the ACT and SATs.
Yeah. Did you ever see the, uh, documentary on the college admissions scandal?
Yes. Yes.
And they talk about the guy who was, like, t- you know, forging the tests, and, uh, they ha- you know, have him branded as some, like, test-taking savant,
2Episode notes
The ACT is a college entrance exam used by many colleges to rank students applying to their schools. The subject matter covers English grammar, reading comprehension, math, and science.
Millions of students take the test each year and the test prep business rakes in over a billion dollars a year.
As a Side Hustle Nation reader, I want to show you how to get some of that money!
Don’t fret if you aren't a teacher. I'll give you resources to gain the skills and they cost $0.
