[upbeat music] Hello everyone, this is OMNI Talk Retail. I am Chris Walton, and you are listening to the Retail Daily Minute, your quickest, fastest breakdown of all today's top retail news. Today's podcast is brought to you once again with the help and support of Zenline AI, because you have likely heard about AI agents 1,000 times this year, but are also probably wondering what they can do for you as a retailer. So visit tryzenline.ai to book a call and see how agents can bring you more margin. Hello from Las Vegas. Today is October 8th, 2026, and this morning we've got news on the grocery industry's pushback against the FTC's proposed personalized pricing policy, and Tractor Supply's new automated distribution center in Idaho. But we begin today with TikTok and its bid to own the entire shopping trip. TikTok announced on Monday that it is launching an agentic AI shopping experience that lets customers discover and buy products without ever leaving the app. According to Retail Dive, it starts with Shopping Assistant, a conversational AI agent that understands context, remembers what a user needs, and can answer questions on product details, shipping, sizing, and even availability. From there, a feature called Buy Direct lets shoppers purchase straight from a brand with one click right inside the for you feed. TikTok is also out with numbers to make its case. 55% of its users say the platform has helped them make more informed purchasing decisions, and an estimated 54 million US consumers went on to buy a product after watching a TikTok video. The direction here is, quite frankly, hard to argue with. TikTok already owns discovery. Now it wants the purchase to be just as easy. And an agent that answers the sizing question, plus a one-click buy button removes two of the biggest reasons a shopper ever desires to leave the TikTok feed.

[upbeat music] All right, we are back, and our next story comes from Washington, where the grocery industry is pushing back on the Federal Trade Commission. According to Grocery Dive, both FMI, the Food Industry Association, and the National Grocers Association have filed written comments asking the FTC for more precision in its proposed enforcement policy on personalized pricing. The argument is that the policy, as written, risks sweeping in loyalty programs, coupons, markdowns meant to cut food waste, and electronic shelf labels. The NGA wants the agency to draw a line between personalized pricing, where personal data is used to push the price up toward the most a shopper will pay, and personalized promotions, where a coupon brings the price down. And on shelf labels, the NGA's Stephanie Johnson put it this way, quote, "An electronic shelf label is simply a price tag." End quote. Now keep in mind who is talking here. These are trade groups whose job it is to lobby on behalf of
