I adore Malatang so I might be a little biased, but I loved this place. You grab a bowl, load up on the assorted selection of ingredients, and then the price is calculated by weight. Though it does look like they have combo options too. This place had a wide selection of ingredients, there was plenty of options! We ordered the spicy beef broth, and it was very rich and flavorful with a nice kick to it. The only thing that I would say is that some of the veggie items didn't look particularly fresh. The staff was also super nice, offering to explain how ordering works and show you the ropes.…
There weren’t a lot of choices comparing to the other Zhang Liang malatangs, but overall I had a good meal! When we went into the restaurant, nobody served us. We found a table and sat down. We got ourselves cups and water, and you don’t really need any help from the server except when you are paying. The place is old, not with the best environment but at least the food was tasty.
To start this mess of what im going to say HERE IS MY CREDENTIALS, ive been there twice to give it a second chance . FIRST OF ALL the garlic is soapy ….? Excuse me what. SECOND OF ALL me and my boyfriend had the taste of soap in our mouths after trying the sesame oil or idk what it was buy it tasted like dawn dish soap like the whole make your sauce bar is NOT FRESH and talking about NOT FRESH well the whole wall of food is may i repeat myself NOT FRESH, when i tell you my toilet was not happy to see me .ALSO TELL ME WHY I PAID 34$ FOR A SMALL BOWL THEY DONT SHOW YOU THE WEIGHT SO I THINK…
What just entered my system. If I could give zero stars i would. I was walking in china town with my friend and we got hungry, we stumbled upon this restaurant so we went in. First glimpse I got of this restaurant was horrendous. The smell was terrible, in hindsight, I probably should not have ate there, but my friend wanted to try it. I don’t know how I built up the courage to eat that, Even the cups they gave to serve water smelled so bad. I vomited. There is a big shelf of options what to put in your Noodles , it was terrible, and at the beginning there’s a cold soggy fried egg that they…

Came here during my trip because my friend really missed malatang and insisted we try it. Honestly, the ingredients didn’t feel super fresh — there was a bit of a fishy smell near the self-serve area. That said, the final bowl tasted okay, and my friend was satisfied, which made the visit worth it in its own way.
Loved it! Got the original bone broth and it was so flavourful and delicious. Everything was perfectly cooked by the chef in the back. The shrimp and bass fish were especially exceptional. Can't wait to come back
Fun concept. Broths are good, comforting. Good if you crave mild or spicy Malatang as hangover food. You pay at the counter after grabbing the ingredients you wish them to cook for you, so don’t expect too much service other than that. It won’t necessarily harm your overall experience here. This is my go-to spot for Malatang in Montreal.
Pros and cons. Pros: it's a really fun concept. Love the wide selection of ingredients you get to pick from to create your own bowl and dipping sauce. The bowl is also huge and you can choose from different soup bases. The seating is also nice and comfortable. Cons: the price by weight. I really don't think we can justify it. Yes, you get a lot in the bowl and you'll feel very full afterwards. However the avg bowl is going to be around $45 so get ready to spend. We even saw other ppl being shocked by the price and returning some ingredients. Honestly it's the most expensive soup I've ever…
