Following a jury trial in Cook County, defendant, Robert Aughinbaugh, was found guilty of the 1961 robbery of Burton’s Men’s Shop in Chicago. That conviction was reversed on appeal and remanded for a new trial. (People v. Aughinbaugh (1967), 36 Ill.2d 320.) The retrial, again before a jury, resulted in a conviction for armed robbery, and defendant was sentenced to a term of from 10 to 20 years imprisonment, to be served consecutively to a 25-to-35-year term imposed following his conviction for a tavern robbery (affirmed, People v.
