MURRAY, Justice.

This matter came before this court pursuant to an order requiring all the parties to appear and show cause why this appeal should not be summarily decided. The plaintiffs appeal from a Superior Court judgment on a directed verdict entered in favor of Dwain L. Hawthorne, in his capacity as director of finance for the city of Newport (Newport).
