This is an action at law for damages caused by alleged acts of negligence of the defendant, a member of the Iowa Highway Safety Patrol, who had assumed the task of directing traffic at the scene of a mishap upon the highway. The defendant entered a special appearance based upon the ground that the petition disclosed he was an Iowa highway patrolman, acting in his official capacity at the time, was carrying out his lawful duties imposed by statute, and was clothed with immunity as an arm of the State of Iowa.
