Defendant Sherman M. Morissette was indicted by a Livingston County grand jury for the offenses of attempt (escape) (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1989, ch. 38, par. 31—6), unlawful possession of contraband in a State penal institution (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1989, ch. 38, par. 31A—1.1(b)), and unlawful possession of a weapon by a person within the custody of a Department of Corrections (DOC) facility (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1989, ch. 38, par. 24—1.1(b)).
