SHEA, J.

After a jury trial and a verdict of guilty on both counts of the information, the defendant, Jose Prat, has appealed from the judgment convicting him of assault in the first degree in violation of General *93Statutes § 53a-59 (a) (l),1 as charged in the first count of the information, and carrying a dangerous instrument in violation of General Statutes (Rev. to 1997) § 53-206 (a),2 as charged in the second count. The trial court sentenced the defendant to a term of imprisonment of twenty years on the charge of assault in the first degree, execution suspended after fifteen years…
